Speech Trek

Speech Trek enters it’s 17th season in 2023. It was funded in honor of AAUW member Eleanor Stem Allen to encourage high school students to speak out articulately on issues of importance.  It fills a gap in AAUW support from Tech Trek for middle schoolers and our college and graduate studies’ scholarships. Students compete in giving a 5-6 minute original videotaped speech in front of a live audience on the chosen topic before a panel of judges; the top student from our local AAUW affiliate, the branch semi-finalist, submits a YouTube video of their speech to the State Speech Trek judges. First place winner will receive $1500, 2nd place $1000, 3rd $500 and will travel to the State Convention/Annual Meeting all expenses paid.

The 2023 contest topic is:  How can communities, organizations and citizens of all ages help protect and expand voting rights?

Contest date: ***This year’s contest has been cancelled***

The Speech Trek Committee welcomes your support as a volunteer or as a donor to support our local prizes.
